The Department of Educational Leadership prepares passionate educators for positions of leadership in schools and districts with diverse populations.
If you are a talented educator in a public, charter, religious-affiliated, or independent school, you can receive personalized advising and the highest quality instruction in LIU Hudson’s supportive environment.
Our MS.Ed. and Advanced Certificate programs lead to eligibility for New York State certificates as School Building Leader (SBL) and School District Leader (SDL), as well as to out-of-state Principal and Superintendent certifications and roles at the community, school, district, state, and national levels.
All courses stress critical thinking, reflection, and problem-solving skills that empower you to improve student performance and lead change in the schools. We emphasize connecting theory with practice and focus on optimizing learning. Integral to our programs is a carefully supervised internship, fulfilled in collaboration with school and district leaders, that focuses on five areas:
Our programs are dedicated to the core domains of leadership, to the Performance Standards for Educational Leaders (PSELS), and to preparing candidates who demonstrate the essential characteristics of effective leaders promoted by the New York State Education Department.
