Dr. Lonie has been a faculty member LIU Pharmacy School faculty since September 1998. An alumnus of LIU College of Pharmacy, after graduation he started a community pharmacy practice in Brooklyn- Marine Park Pharmacy. While operating his pharmacy he earned a master’s degree in psychology. After being appointed to the faculty he completed his doctoral degree adult development and learning from Teachers College, Columbia University. Dr. Lonie is interested in social pharmacy and pharmacy education research. He is on the editorial board for Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning and is a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, research abstracts, and book chapters. Dr. Lonie is an invited speaker at national and international meetings. Dr. Lonie is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, American Pharmacists Association and several state and local pharmacy associations.
Dr. Lonie’s research is in social pharmacy- medication adherence, empathic development in healthcare professionals, pharmacist’s role in community mental health awareness. Currently, he is coordinating a multiphase project with community groups in Bedford-Stuyvesant Brooklyn to identify, refer, treat and follow-up at risk populations with mental health issues in underserved areas of Brooklyn.
His research and scholarship have also focused on how adult learning and development theories influence the growth of cognitive skills, attitudes and behaviors in pharmacy education. He has been involved in discovering how pharmacy and health science educators can utilize self-reflective practices in the classroom and in the clinic.
