The 24-credit Advanced Certificate Program in School Counseling is for students who already have a master’s degree in counseling and wish to meet the educational requirements to become certified as a school counselor. To enter this program, a students graduate transcript in counseling must reflect coursework in professional issues and ethics, social and cultural diversity, human growth and development, career development, helping relationships, group work and assessment. Building upon these core content areas, the school counseling advanced certificate program focuses specifically on the development of knowledge and skills necessary to work in today’s schools, such as: contemporary practice of school counseling; school-based research; program development and evaluation, advocacy; leadership; collaboration and consultation. The program requires a total of 60 credits and two years of experience as a school counselor.
