The Department of Health and Human Services unifies complimentary areas to facilitate greater exposure for students to real-world practice through collaborative learning across disciplines. Dedicated faculty are experienced educators, experts in professional practice, and active locally and nationally recognized researchers who stress leadership, effective performance, problem-solving skills, ethical concerns, program analysis and implementation in a student-centered environment.
The Bachelor of Science degree and a Certificate programs in Health Information Management are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). The field of Health Information Management plays an important role in the planning, design, implementation, management, use and evaluation of information systems and electronic health records. Health information administrators are the specialists who secure, analyze, integrate, maintain, and provide reliable and accurate information the steers the healthcare industry.
Programs in Public Administration (NASPAA accredited) offer undergraduate and graduate degrees that prepare students for leadership positions in hospitals and nursing homes; county, city, town and village governments;school districts; and federal and state agencies.
Our degree programs in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, and Public Administration welcome both full-time and part-time students. Students also can choose five-year Accelerated Programs that lead to both a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Administration or Political Science and a Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) or a Master of Public Administration (MPA) in either field. Undergraduate minors are also available in Public Service, Health Care Administration, Healthcare Data Management, and Healthcare Reimbursement & Coding.
Medical Imaging at LIU Post has been a provider of education in diagnostic imaging since 1973 and offers the entry-level baccalaureate degree in Radiologic Technology. Radiologic technologists operate x-ray and digital imaging machines—important diagnostic tests that help doctors detect and treat illness and injury. The Bachelor of Science degree in Radiologic Technology is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
Undergraduate and graduate programs in Social Work are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), signifying that it meets the highest standards of academic excellence. These programs prepare students for practice as a social workers with diverse populations, including individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities including those who are oppressed and discriminated against, in a variety of fields and settings, using a wide range of methods. Field work in varied settings, including schools, homeless shelters, child and family counseling centers, charitable organizations, senior citizen facilities, and social service agencies enhances academic learning and allows you to make a real impact on a multicultural society. Social Work as a profession is an exciting growth area that offers professional flexibility and personal satisfaction.
